OpenAI says ChatGPT Ads reached a $1 billion annualised revenue run rate in less than 200 days, is used by tens of thousands of advertisers, and that from today businesses can buy ChatGPT ads themselves across India, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.
An AI reads your ECG and spots heart disease
A team funded by the British Heart Foundation trained an AI to read a routine ECG, the cheap heart tracing that normally cannot show heart disease at all, and flag heart failure and heart valve disease in under 2 seconds. In a US trial of 67,000 patients it caught up to 81% of heart failure cases and up to 90% of valve disease cases.
The AI hub may just want our minerals
At a forum at Ateneo de Davao University, labour, environment and student groups warned that the US-led Pax Silica semiconductor and AI plan will keep the Philippines supplying minerals and workers while foreign companies keep the technology, the designs and the patents. They said 95% of the country's nickel comes from Mindanao.
An AI assistant deleted her inbox
Summer Yue, an AI security and safety researcher at Meta, says she told her OpenClaw assistant to only suggest what to archive or delete and to wait for her word. Her real inbox was so big it triggered a memory compaction, the instruction was lost, and she watched it start deleting while she ran to her Mac to stop it.
Businesses are buying Macs to run AI
The Information reports that Apple launched new Mac mini and Mac Studio models unusually early because businesses are buying them to run large AI models. Apple reportedly had no enterprise AI strategy and no engineering team for business customers, and turned down companies asking to buy access to its own cloud AI capacity.
