24 airlines at NAIA now take the digital OFW Pass. No printed OEC.
OFWs flying those carriers only need a passport and a QR code on their phone at check-in. The Department of Migrant Workers says the paper exit clearance is no longer part of the counter.
Twenty four international airlines at Ninoy Aquino International Airport now accept the digital OFW Pass in place of a printed Overseas Employment Certificate, the Department of Migrant Workers said. An OFW flying one of those carriers shows a passport and pulls up the pass in the eGovPH app. The check-in staff scan the QR code, and that is the clearance done.
The list is not a token handful. It covers Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific, the two most Filipinos fly, plus Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways, Gulf Air, Saudia, Kuwait Airways and Oman Air on the Middle East runs. Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Korean Air, Japan Airlines, ANA, Asiana, Malaysia Airlines, Thai Airways, China Airlines, Starlux, Air Macau, AirAsia, Air India, Air Canada, Air Niugini and Ethiopian Airlines round it out. The scan runs on the DMW e-Verify system, the same check the agency uses to confirm a worker is cleared to leave.
Why it matters
The OEC is the errand every departing OFW knows. It is the document you chase before a flight, the reason for an extra trip to an office or a queue you did not budget time for. Moving it into the phone takes one physical step out of a departure that already involves a long line and a heavy bag.
There is a second thing riding on the same scan. Bombo Radyo reported that once the airline verifies the pass, it can process the terminal fee exemption or refund that qualifying OFWs are entitled to. That is money, not just convenience, and it now sits in the same QR check instead of a separate counter.
The catch to watch
This is a rollout, not a switch that has been flipped for everyone. If your airline is not among the 24, assume the old paperwork rules still apply and check before you leave the house. The pass also lives on your phone, which means a dead battery or a signal problem at the counter is now your problem, so load the pass and screenshot it before you get to the airport. And a new process takes time to settle at ground level. Early on, some counters will be faster at this than others, so give yourself the same buffer you always would.
